Four Types of SVG Reactive Power Compensation Devices and Their Characteristics

Based on application requirements and technical characteristics, SVG reactive power compensation devices can be classified into four main types.
I. Series-Type SVG Reactive Power Compensation Device
Characteristics:
The series-type SVG reactive power compensation device is primarily connected in series with the load to adjust the phase relationship between current and voltage, reduce voltage fluctuations, and improve power quality. This type of SVG device is typically suitable for situations with severe voltage fluctuations and can effectively enhance the voltage stability of the power system.
II. Shunt-Type SVG Reactive Power Compensation Device
Characteristics:
The shunt-type SVG reactive power compensation device is usually connected in parallel with the grid. It adjusts the injection or absorption of reactive power to improve the power factor of the grid. This type of device offers high compensation capability and is widely used in industrial production, particularly in environments with significant load variations.
III. Hybrid-Type SVG Reactive Power Compensation Device
Characteristics:
The hybrid-type SVG reactive power compensation device combines the features of both series-type and shunt-type devices, enabling both series compensation and shunt compensation of reactive power. This type of device is typically used in complex power systems that require simultaneous resolution of voltage stability and power factor issues.
IV. Thyristor Rectifier-Type SVG Reactive Power Compensation Device
Characteristics:
The thyristor rectifier-type SVG reactive power compensation device controls the compensation current by adjusting the conduction angle of thyristor devices. It is widely applied in settings requiring precise control of reactive power, such as the chemical, metallurgical, and steel industries.
