Functions of Electric Heating Capacitors in Submerged Arc Furnaces

Submerged arc furnaces rely on electrical energy to heat metal ores, resulting in high and unstable power consumption. Submerged arc furnaces typically exhibit a low power factor, especially during startup and operation. Due to significant current fluctuations in the furnace load, particularly during the arc heating phase, a substantial amount of reactive power may be generated.

2. Reducing Voltage Fluctuations

Capacitors help stabilize the grid voltage, particularly during the operation of submerged arc furnances, by absorbing part of the sudden reactive power and mitigating voltage fluctuations.

The addition of capacitors can reduce the load on transformers, lower the required rated capacity of transformers, and thereby improve equipment efficiency and extend their service life.
