How to solve the deformation of the cylindrical low-voltage power capacitor housing?
Aug 06, 2025| The cylindrical low-voltage power capacitor, as the core component of the reactive power compensation system, has the problem of shell deformation which is widespread in the power system. This is because during operation, the cylindrical low-voltage power capacitor's shell may deform due to overload, overheating, internal faults or mechanical stress. So, how to solve this problem?
I. Emergency Handling Procedures
1. Immediate power cut: When you notice the shell bulging or deforming, immediately cut off the power supply of the circuit where the capacitor is located and hang a warning sign.
2. Safety isolation: Isolate the faulty capacitor from the system to prevent it from affecting the operation of other equipment.
3. Cooling treatment (if overheating occurs): Use ventilation or forced cooling (such as fans) to lower the temperature of the capacitor. Do not spray water directly.
II. Analysis of Deformation Causes and Targeted Measures
1. Overvoltage or overcurrent
Phenomenon: The outer shell expands uniformly, possibly accompanied by the activation of the protective device.
Solution: Check whether the grid voltage exceeds the rated voltage of the capacitor (for example, a 400V capacitor is operating at 450V for a long time).
2. Internal medium failure
Symptom: Local bulge, oil leakage or electrolyte leakage.
Solution: Use a multimeter to measure the capacitance value. If the capacity decreases by more than 10% or the insulation resistance is less than 1000 MΩ, replacement is necessary.
3. Excessive environmental temperature
Symptom: The entire shell has deformed. Environmental temperature is higher than 50℃.
Solution: Improve ventilation conditions by installing cooling fans or temperature control start-stop devices.
